Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) has been reviewing its programming with reference to public feedback since the launch of digital terrestrial television (DTT) service in 2014, in order to keep pace with the changing needs of the community.
As stipulated in the Charter of RTHK, RTHK undertakes to provide for the relay of national broadcasting. Before the launch of RTHK TV33, RTHK had considered about either relaying China Central Television Channel 1 (CCTV-1) or China Central Television - 9 Documentary (CCTV-9, currently known as China Global Television Network, CGTN Documentary). Since CCTV-1 had already been available on another free local TV channel at that time, to avoid duplication of programme broadcast, it was decided to relay programmes of CCTV-9 Documentary. Currently, there is no question of duplication as mentioned above.
Taking into account the fact that most local audience prefers watching Chinese television programmes, RTHK will relay CCTV-1 on RTHK TV33 and TV33A starting from 29th May, 2017.
