RTHK Radio 4 Brings You The 61st Hong Kong Schools Music Festival

Hong Kong Schools Music Festival has always been a much-anticipated musical highlight for local students, teachers and parents. This April and May, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 4 will be presenting excerpts from this year’s Choir Finals and the four winners’ concerts, bringing a second chance for listeners to revisit the top-form performances of budding musicians.

Organised by the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association (HKSMSA), the annual Hong Kong Schools Music Festival is dedicated to providing a platform for students to explore their potentials in the arts and to showcase their musical talent. Besides primary schools, secondary schools and post-secondary institutes, participants also come from special schools and kindergartens, with the youngest group of participants only aged five. Entered its 61st year, more than 150,000 students joined this year’s festival. The festival comprises 318 classes, including piano, duets and ensembles, orchestras, Chinese instrumental solos and groups, harmonica and recorder, to name just a few. Even Cantonese operatic songs are included.

RTHK Radio 4 will broadcast the special programme “The 61st Hong Kong Schools Music Festival” in a nine-week series. Starting from 5 April. Listeners will be able to revisit the exciting moments of six Primary School and Secondary School Urban Choir Finals, while Interviews with students, teachers and parents will also be included in the programmes. Although the competitions are over, the four prize-winners’ concerts are not-to-be-missed. Radio 4 will broadcast excerpts from the concerts which feature a variety of solos, instrumental and vocal groups. The TV version produced by RTHK ETV division will be broadcast on TVB Pearl and ATV World in the ETV time slot starting from 4 May. More details are available on www.eTVonline.tv.

“The 61st Hong Kong Schools Music Festival” will be broadcast on RTHK Radio 4 (FM97.6 – 98.9MHz) every Sunday at 8pm starting from 5 April, with repeats on every Friday at 2pm. The public can also visit the archives on RTHK On Internet (www.rthk.org.hk).
