Hong Kong’s Top Fiction-writing Talents Awarded Tonight
Over the past decades, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 3 has been organizing writing competitions to encourage the public to put pen to paper. This year, partnering with the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the two foremost English language media held a “Hong Kong’s Top Story 2011” competition in search of top fiction-writing talents. After receiving a fantastic response with over 160 entries from the community, the judging panel selected 8 winners with 2 of them granted the title “Most Creative Award” in both Junior and Adult Category. An award presentation ceremony was held today (16 January 2012) at RTHK, with Deputy Director of Broadcasting (Programme) Tai Keen-man, Editor of Young Post, SCMP Susan Ramsay, and Anne Wong, SCMP’s Director of Marketing as the officiating guests.
The competition, which had its submission deadline on 25 November 2011, is open to secondary students (aged 12 to 18) and a separate division for adults (aged over 18). A theme “A Special Gift” was chosen with the holidays in mind. The winners of each division were presented books from Pan Macmillan and received a consultation with one of the publisher’s London-based editors as prizes. Second and third runner-up writers won a special selection of books, and the most creative work also won a fabulous prize. In addition, all winners each received a gadget from Samsung’s GALAXY product range. The winning entries will be published on the RTHK website (http://radio3.rthk.hk) on 17 January, 2012.
The ceremony was followed by a short broadcast live in “NewsWrap” on RTHK Radio 3 (AM 567, FM97.9 Happy Valley, Jardine’s Lookout, Parkview Corner, AM1584/FM106.8 HK South, FM107.8 Tseung Kwan O & Tin Shui Wai. DAB channel 33) at 6:55pm today and is available on the RTHK website (http://radio3.rthk.hk).
