RTHK Calls for Public Consultation on Community Involvement Broadcasting Service
Date:2012-02-13

Since the launch of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) service, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) plans to allocate some airtime from it for introducing Community Involvement Broadcasting Service (CIBS) which aims to provide a platform for community participation in broadcasting. RTHK “Public Consultation Forum on Pilot Project for CIBS” for Chinese language programme service had been conducted on 31 January, 2012 and public was invited to give their opinions for non-Chinese language programme service tonight (13 February, 2012) at Y-Studio, Youth Square, Chai Wan.

The Government has earmarked HK$45 million to establish the Community Involvement Broadcasting Fund (CIBF) to support the three-year CIBS Project with radio programme production as the first testing ground. The fund would be administered by RTHK.

As a pilot, RTHK has subsequently held several focus groups with community leaders, discussed with RTHK programme advisors, and consulted the Board of Advisors on the framework of CIBS. Initial concept has been drawn up in a CIBS Consultation Paper which can be obtained in Home Affairs Department or on RTHK website (http://rthk.hk/about/cibs). Public is welcome to send their views by post to Broadcasting House, 30 Broadcasting Drive, Kowloon; by fax to 21943502; or by email to cibs@rthk.hkon or before 29 March 2012.

RTHK “Public Consultation Forum on Pilot Project for CIBS” was hosted by Dr. CHEUNG Chor-yung. Representatives of RTHK including Deputy Director of Broadcasting (Programmes) TAI Keen-man, Head of Digital Audio Broadcasting, CHAN Yiu-wah and Deputy Head of Public Affairs Unit (Radio) Jace AU Lai-ngar attended the forum to collect more collaborative views from the community.
